GOD IS WITH US 1.2.2021

Happy New Year! God’s Blessings! It is the Feast of the Epiphany. The Gospel from Matthew describes the journey of the magi, or “wise men” to find Jesus, a new ruler to shepherd the people: “They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother.” They recognized how special Jesus was!

Each of us is on our own journey, to get to know Jesus better, and have our lives be influenced in a positive way by our relationship with Jesus. From the 1st reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, “Rise up in splendor! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you.” It goes on, “Nations shall walk by your light; they all gather and come to you.” God’s radiance shines everywhere. Like the angel said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid.” Even in the darkness many of us experienced in 2020, God’s presence is everywhere, and has supported us in ways we might not grasp or understand. We can count on the light of Jesus to continue to be with us in 2021.

In the 2nd reading, St. Paul speaks of the “stewardship of God’s grace” in his Letter to the Ephesians: “It was not made known to people in other generations as it now has been revealed.” We join the apostles and prophets as disciples of Jesus to have access to the incredible love that God showers us with, and may the Psalm ring true: “Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.” May we be blessed with “epiphany” moments in our ongoing mission to discover, live and share Jesus.

Thank you to anyone who helped in any way with our Christmas season Masses, a time to truly adore our Savior, Jesus Christ. As life still has many challenges ahead, we invite you to “pray unceasingly,” living in a spirit of love, kindness, and trust in God.

Peace in Christ,
Deacon Steve
