Children’s Liturgy of the Word

St. Katharine Drexel Children's Liturgy

  • St. Katharine Drexel Parish offers Children’s Liturgy of the Word at both St. Francis Church and St. Mary Church during Mass from September through June.
    • 9:00 AM       St. Francis Church
    • 10:30 AM     St. Mary Church
  • The goal of Liturgy of the Word with children is to help young children hear and respond to God’s message in an age-appropriate way so they can participate in the celebration of the Mass.
  • This approved liturgical prayer takes place at the same time the Liturgy of the Word is celebrated at Sunday Mass. Primarily, this is for children ages 4 to 7 or 8, or when they receive their First Communion in 2nd grade, although older children often attend to help with younger siblings. Please note: This is not a babysitting service. We are not equipped for children under 4 years old.
  • Children take part in the dismissal to hear God’s Word in another space, and they return to Church to sit with their family for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
  • Volunteers are always appreciated to fill the roles each week: Adult Prayer Leader, Reader and Cantor to lead the Responsorial Psalm and Alleluia (can be middle /high school students) and other helpers. Training will be provided.
