Received Wisdom from the Gospel - 2.27.2022

Received Wisdom from the Gospel

Are there any sayings or words of wisdom your family used when you were growing up? Did grandpa or grandma have any catchphrases that you heard frequently? Did your parents offer words of advice or wisdom? Do you remember advice or wisdom from a teacher or a coach? If you wanted help learning something new, what qualities would you look for in a teacher?

Here at Kaukauna Catholic Parishes, we see our mission as Jesus’ disciples to help others and lead them to Jesus. To do this, Jesus says that we must prepare, just as a teacher must prepare by learning a subject before he or she can teach it well.

In the three parables in today’s Gospel of Luke 6:27-38, Jesus teaches us how to be a good disciple. He talks about what is required for us to be able to help others and teach them about God. If we look at the Gospel this week, we can ask… When does Jesus say a disciple will be like his teacher?  What is Jesus telling us in this parable? What does the parable about the splinter in your brother’s eye teach us?

Jesus teaches us that as his disciples, we do good deeds and help others. To do good deeds and be of service to others, we must have a good heart. We are the “blind leading the blind” if we try to help or influence others when we don’t understand Jesus’ teachings or when we aren’t willing to examine our conscience, change our behavior and live with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Once again, our parish prayer invites us to do this.

Loving God and Father - You sent your Spirit to us to help us on our Way. Give us the grace as people of Kaukauna Catholic Parishes; to discover the life of Jesus, and to live and share this Joy with others so that your will may be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Blessings,
Fr. Mack
